Why her but not any other girl? Have you ever wondered why Mary was chosen to be Jesus’ earthly mother? Not only is she a humble and faithful servant of God, but there is more…
When we look closely at Mary’s Song as recorded in Luke 1: 46-55, we learn that Mary was well-versed with God’s word as recorded in the Old Testament. The references are included in parentheses below. And Mary said:
My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed, (1 Samuel 1:11)
for the Mighty One has done great things for me – holy is his name. (Psalm 126:3)
His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. (Psalm 103:17)
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
He has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. (Psalm 89:10)
He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. (Job 5: 11)
He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. (Psalm 107: 9)
He has helped his servant Israel, (Psalm 98:3)
remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever,
even as he said to our fathers.
To accomplish God’s Work, one needs to know God’s Word. Lowly but not ignorant; poor but not foolish!!!!!
