What would be the BEST way to start the year of 2017? For me, the BEST way would be: count my blessings one by one, speak words to edify one another, share and be thankful with God’s providence.
To elaborate on thankfulness, let’s draw reference from the story of the widow’s offering recorded in Mark 12: 41-44. It is not a story of small matter, but of big matter. The widow’s external action reflects her internal state. The two very small copper coins was a lot in the eyes of Jesus as compared to many others who gave out of their vast wealth. It underscores the essence of quality, not quantity. It is summed up that: “she, out of her poverty, put in everything – all she had to live on” (Mark 12:44). This widow’s behavior is motivated by her heart of gratitude.
A grateful attitude is a heart issue, a choice and a way of living our daily life. It is an anticipation, rather than a consequence, of us receiving God’s and/or others’ favors and/or gifts. Gratitude can be cultivated, and it activates the BEST way to start a joyous, meaningful and prosperous 2017.
